Profile of the Department

Department of Harbour and Ocean engineering is well equipped with coastal modeling laboratory. DHI’s MIKE 21 features on modeling of waves, wave reflection, refraction, diffraction and sediment budgeting. The students are studying on various aspects of coastal modeling using MIKE 21 software.

The department is enriched with TUNAMI N2, tsunami modeling software: which provides the necessary output on tsunami inundation modeling. The department provides interim training on latest techniques on coastal survey.

The coastal modeling laboratory is also equipped with Geotechnical software – PLAXIS which is used for 2-d and 3-d geotechnical analysis of deformation and stability of soil structures, as well as groundwater and heat flow, in geo-engineering applications such as excavation, foundations, embankments and tunnels.  The coastal modeling laboratory is also equipped with STAAD.Pro, a structural analysis and design computer program. STAAD.Pro is used to analyze and design virtually any type of structure.

The department library is equipped with latest edition books and advanced e-journals related to maritime engineering, wave energy and construction technology. The department receives free subscription of Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) and London Journal of Energy.

Students have been placed in HOWE India Pvt Ltd, New Delhi, STUP Consultants, Mumbai, Van Oord Dredging Company and Zebec Marine consultant & Services, mMumbai. Through our University Agreement with Ghent University, Belgium, students are going to do their final semester project work with Ghent University, Technum-Tractebel, DEME, BESIX. The students have been selected for the companies with the possibility of consecutive placement.
