Profile of the Department

Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) has commenced its Maritime Education starting with HND Marine Engineering in the year 1993 in collaboration with Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, United Kingdom. Presently Known as City of Glasgow College after merger of three colleges in the year 2010.

In 2006 Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) had collaboration with South Tyneside College to conduct Higher National Diploma in Marine Engineering.

In both Programmes Students are to undergo 1st year Programme at Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) and on Successful completion of the Programme and the Graded Unit Examination conducted by respective UK College, they will be going to City of Glasgow college or South Tyneside College as the students selected while enrolling into the Programme. As per UK Border Agency(UKBA) students should have International English Language Training (IELT)Score of 5.5 Aggregated and valid TB Screening certificate to get UK Visa.

After completion of the 2nd year Programme at UK colleges, the cadets are to undergo mandatory 8 months sea training.  On completion of successful sea training, the Cadets are to undergo Engineer Officer of the Watch Preparatory Programme at respective UK colleges before appearing for the Certificate of Competency Examination Class IV conducted by Maritime Coast Guard Agency. UK. 

HND-ME qualification allows students to claim exemptions from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s professional marine engineer’s examinations and qualifies them to progress upto Chief Engineer on Board Ship.

In addition to the preparatory Programme the cadets would also have to undergo various advanced Programmes which are mandatory before appearing for the certificate of competency examination. On successful completion of a cadetship, progression to certification and to the senior ranks of Second and Chief Engineering Officer will follow further training.

Successful completion of the HND at merit grade or above gives entry to the B.Eng or B.Eng (Hons) Marine Engineering programme at STC, where as COGC has collaboration with Caledonian University for B.Eng Programmes and also further studies up to PhD Level.
