September 2009 saw two major developments
at AMET, which is India’s first
Maritime University, and continues to
live up to country’s expectations.
21 students, fully sponsored by NIMASA
(Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency)
arrived on campus to pursue their Maritime
education at AMET. Mrs. Irene Macfoy,
coordinating the prestigious Nigerian
Seafarers Development Programme”
of NIMASA, accompanied these students
to AMET. Expressing her utmost satisfaction,
she confirmed that the number of students
sent to AMET will grow in the years
to come.
On the same day, the President of Korea
Maritime University, Dr Keo-Don OH accompanied
by Dr. Jinsoo Park, Head of the Maritime
Studies, visited AMET and signed the
MoU for exchange of students, faculty
and programmes, joint research and curriculum
and other academic areas. Korea is a
strong seafaring nation and the Korea
Maritime University has a 90 years long
history to it and has achieved excellence
in areas of shipbuilding, maritime technology
and ocean research.
It may be worthwhile mentioning here
that AMETs MoU with Danish Maritime
University has already seen joint research
initiated and also exchange of students
when 3 of AMETs Marine Engineering students
did an innovative project at Denmark
of remote starting, monitoring and stopping
of generator located in Denmark campus,
from AMET campus in Chennai, under the
able guidance of Mr. Claus Walther Jensen,
faculty at Denmark.
