DNV houses its Maritime Academy at AMET University

Det Norske Veritas AS (DNV) today (5th June 2008) signed a historic MoU with AMET University to establish its first ever, "DNV Academy" in India.

The DNV Academy will focus primarily on Management Capacity building in the fast emerging Shipbuilding sector of the country. DNV will also house its Technical Support Engineers in Academy premises, who shall support approval of worldwide shipbuilding plans under strict DNV requirements.

The location at AMET University offers great opportunity to both organizations to mutually benefit. AMET University already has a B.E. Naval Architecture & Offshore engineering program and is soon launching host of other marine related courses at UG, PG and Research level.

Thus, the exchange of ideas and expertise, the support of specific discipline interaction, the development of programmes and internship and any other collaborative activities that may be relevant are all such possibilities.

"AMET, as the First and only Maritime University of this country, was the obvious choice for Co-operation," comments Mr. Kamal Kumar, Country Manager - Maritime, DNV India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, who signed the MoU on behalf of DNV AS. Mr. N. Venkateshwaran, DNV Academy Manager shall look after the day to day management. Goodearth Shipbuilding Pvt Ltd is reported as closely working with DNV towards Shipyard Competency building for their forthcoming Major Shipyard at Cuddalore.

"It is matter of great honor and prestige for AMET University to be chosen by DNV to house its first ever Academy in India," beamed Mr. J Ramachandran, Chancellor of AMET University."It is a further progression in the excellent relationships that AMET has developed with DNV, as well as a testimony to its leading position and highly responsive attitude," commented Capt S. Bhardwaj, the Vice Chancellor of AMET University. "The industry/institute interface focus has peaked to this prestigious MoU," added Capt. Bhardwaj.
