AMET the First University in Maritime Education in the Country

Academy of Maritime Education and Training, (AMET), located in Chennai, India, has been the country's premier institution for the Marine and Shipping related education. It provides Diploma, Graduate and Post-graduate courses in subjects like Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Architecture & Offshore Engineering as well as Management programmes in Shipping and Logistics.

AMET was inspected by University Grants Commission (UGC) Committee which included representatives of The Indian Maritime Administration and FOSMA ( an industry representatives body) to be granted a deemed university status in December 2006. The Ministry of Human Resource Development upon recommendation of the UGC, on 21st August 2007 issued out the gazette notification granting Deemed University status to AMET.
